Hovie sat down with one of my favorite NY periodicals, Time Out New York at the moment to talk about the city we love so much. The funniest part was when they talked about choosing him over Esco.
You’re the only rapper on this list. We were considering Nas but have this 13-year rule: People on this list had to have had an impact in the last 13 years. And Illmatic was 1994. Should we have included him? Jay-Z: Ah, wow! [Laughs] That’s a tough question. [Pauses] Yeah, only because of the impact of that album, when it’s considered one of the best albums ever created, you have to document that.
WHOA says, Hate on Nas…why? There are many reasons, the first?? What ever happened to the whole DJ Premier / Nas album collaboration? I have a clue. NaS feels Premo is no longer relevant enough to help him sell significant records in todays market. This would be a good point if only Nas himself was relevant enough to sell records in todays market. Look at dudes last two releases. Hip Hop is Dead & the infamous “Nigger” or “Untitled”. Hip Hop Is Dead debuted at #1 but only sold a little over 350,000 copies in its first week. We all remember the singles as they were rolled out and the lackluster production that kept this album from reaching platinum status.

The term popularized by Jay-Z during the Blueprint 1 era, this term is overused in Hip Hop today. I find myself hearing people use the worse “Swag” for everything. It f_cking drives me nuts. So today I will put an end to it. The final straw was “Swagger Like Us”. T.I. is actually one of the main abusers of the word. Find any album or interview and I’m sure he’ll say it. Hov’s rap repertoire was filled with all types of words. How about you pick up a book learn to use it in your everyday speech then spit. Hate week coming…

Hov serves as help out hookman on this track for Raphael Saadiq’s new song off his album The Way I See It. It serves as good music on this rainy day Dukes, get familiar.
My dude Trose shot me over this track featuring Hov’s nephew. I know he might not like being referred as such but those are some big shoes to full youngin’. Track is JD status (SoSo) but I had to share with my Dukes before we put it out to pasture.
Crooked I borrows the American Gangster track and goes in about moving the Herbal Essences instead of the White. A little chronic never did anything bad to anyone.
Talk about a monster collabo. In this skit, Will Ferrell, as Robert Goulet, & Jay-Z (with Beans & Bleek), remake some of Jay’s greatest hits. Peep the guest spot by my dude the ram. Hilarious. Bonus skit with Will & Shaq after the jump.
I WILL NOT d*ck ride this track at all. This is strictly a good press tool by having all these dudes on one track. I will not be fooled like the youth and some adults. That is all my Dukes. The Recession continues to pic up steam to me. Did I ever mention I loathe the word swag?
