“Yo Big Noyd! (What up cuzin’?) I can’t cope/ With all these crab niggas tryna shorten my rope/ Yo it’s the r - a double p - e - r - n – o - y – d/ niggers can’t fuck wit me…” These few quotable bars from Mobb Deep’s classic album “The Infamous” introduced us to Rapper Noyd. He has said that this one verse from “Give up the Goods” secured him his first record deal for a, at the time hefty $300,000. Putting your crew on in Hip Hop is a given so it was only a matter of time before Rapper Noyd got well, “put on”.

I Am Legend
Review by Benedict Hadley
Ill start off by saying that I am not a Will Smith fan. Fan being short for Fanatic and I’m no fanatic. That being said , I do really like the guy, what he stands for and the films he makes.Yet for some reason, in the past Mr. Smith’s role choices were not so much about his acting but the FX team creating the numerous explosions of cars, buildings, people, robots, buildings (oh wait I said that already) and aliens…but in recent years the man has done some stellar work. He made every dude with a tailor and some cuff links think they can bag any woman in ”Hitch”, he befriended and fought off some ill CGI villains in ”I Robot”, gave what I think was his finest moment to date in Michael Mann’s abstract but amazing ”Ali” and managed to not only cut the check for his little man but to also give a kick ass Oscar nominated performance in ”The Pursuit of Happyness”. So all in all the man done came up. His movies have become more about the character (I Robot, Ali, The Pursuit etc.) than the events in the picture (Independence day, Men in Black 1 and 2 !!!). So, with all that said and done I sit here at 12am at Sony Theaters in Manhattan to see what is sure to be this this weekends number one hit ”I am Legend”. The film, directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine) is the 5th adaptation to film of the book by author Ricahrd Matheson but just off the A-List team behind the 2007 version I’m sure this one will fair far better that previous versions of the film. Either way, the movie is about to start…I will let you all know how it turns out.

I’ve always been skeptical of Cassidy since his debut. I’m not old but I tired of the mixtape rapper. Seeing dude come from that lane made me biased from the beginning. Since his debut he’s released two LP’s, and got caught up in some serious shit. His music and real life shared lanes with Cassidy on trial for murder. He also came close to death in serious a car accident. All in all Cassidy pulled trough and is set to release B.A.R.S. today. The Barry Adrian Reese Story takes you into the life (whether real or surreal) of the artist known as Cassidy.

The massive bootlegging continues to cripple the music scene. Online downloads and file sharing has even trickled over the movie biz. Two weeks ago a movie suffered the same fate as Hov’s volume three. The only difference is that no on got shanked. This same movie sparked the inspiration for Sean Carters new album American Gangster.

The Marley family has kept the tradition of good music for over 30 years. Kymani Marley brings a different vibe than the other siblings. The Actor/Musician delivers his new album titled Radio. Born in Jamaica but raised in Dade County, Florida. Radio has Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B throughout the Album. This amalgam of genres shows the different influences that Kymani had while making this album.

I know this album has been out since August but it needs light. It seems like the spirit of Pharcyde has been bred into West Coast representer Blu. Below The Heavens the album has a mid nineties feel. Teamed with his producer (hence Blu & Exile) they created an album I’d expect to come from any borough NYC.

Little Brother was my sh*t in 2004. The listening and The Chitlin Circuit got crazy spins on my itunes. Songs like Speed, Groupie, and I See Now showed the strength of the trio. With the release of Minstrel Show I lost the feeling that I felt on there indie albums. After the album “tanked” 9th Wonder left the group to produce for other artists. From an industry stand point this spelled the end for LB. Phone and Big Pooh kept it trucking and continued recording. I even caught an ill show with my dude Mel at Pratt. The personalities of Pooh and Phonte now came to life for me. My faith in LB was restored. The new album Getback is here. Now signed to an indie again, lets see if the duo can regain the feel that made me gravitate to them.

Brooklynite Phever has been paying dues in the underground Hip Hop scene for the past few years. His second Lp 13th Floor shows his lyrical growth as well as better production. Although I’m pretty skeptical when it comes to independent artists I decided to give the Young Emcee a shot on PMD.

When Young Jeezy announced his depature from the quartet known as Boyz N Da Hood most thought it was the end. I myself thought the same. The singles were structured around the trap star and hid the talent of the other three emcees. - years later and the group finds them self at square one. With a new addition (Gorilla Zoe) to the group the foursome takes us Back Up N Da Chevy.
