Young Guru Lecture At Red Bull Academy

Lecture: Young Guru (Madrid 2011)

Artists need their people. Gimel ‘Young Guru’ Keaton is Jay-Z’s people. When the rap-conquering MC and world-conquering mogul steps into the booth (as he continues to do, despite frequent retirement threats), Young Guru is outside, at the board, making sure Hova sounds good. Since 1999 – a staggering twelve years – this has been the way of things. Along the way, Guru has recorded pretty much every other A-list MCs. Some say he has the Midas touch. Watch as he speaks on doing what you love first and foremost, and a couple tricks of the trade.

Just a Thought: I think I’m Shawn Kemp

With the dunk contest on and the Blake Griffin hype I show you Shawn Kemp. Kemp is arguably the greatest dunker of all time. ‘Nque won 2 championships but Kemp should have–beat Dee Brown in ’91–had one himself. That ’91 dunk contest highlight reel speaks for itself. I went out and bought the Reebok pumps just like everyone else but after further review the judges were wildin’. Kemp’s ability to dunk on people puts him ahead of the contest dunkers i.e. ‘Nque. That little lockout took his career but if you were a League head, you put the rim down to 9 feet and pretended to be Reign Man!

Just A Thought

I am insignificant. I have a voice on the internet but not one that is significant. I’m no Elliott Wilson nor am I Eskay but the things I write about are read. Insignificant people shape the world. Yes Martin Luther King was the face of the civil rights movement but it’s the people that took the water whippings, got arrested and marched that accomplished “racial equality”. These stories need to be told. These stories don’t necessarily need to be put in textbooks but they should be past down like Aesop’s fables. We need to hear the story of the insignificant. I offer an extraordinary story of an insignificant man that is far from an ordinary situation.

Just A Thought

I want to hear Jay-Z talk about something else. Something new. I played In my lifetime…vol.1 4 times last week and Blueprint III today-because my young girl likes III- and strikingly found very little difference between the subject matter. It has been 13 years and unlike his rhetoric Jay-Z has not moved “on to the next one“.

I want a rapper to rap about these R&B nigga’s always claiming they can “take your girl”. I’m sick of it. I want to hear a song about keeping your girl. Not just keeping your girl but addressing the R&B cooners. Tell them “we have our problems but were staying together”.

Ludacris had a song on Theater of the Mind about staying together but he wasn’t telling these tight shirt and jean wearing-you can see their pulse through their scrotum-assholes to get their own. I go to clubs I see what the ratio is. Males 18-34 are-in bulk-staying home focused on something other than females. There are so many to go around-because Bill Gates has turned a lot of males into asexuals-why you want mine? Technology has stolen their mojo so the bitches is out homie. Go get yours. Leave mine and our problems alone, ’cause realisticly being wit you for that one night is going to fuck up her life. Yea she fucked a star but next week when I menage with her two bestfriends you’ll be fucking someone else’s girlfriend while she’s home alone. Home alone perfecting her Night Elf Mohawk Grenades and turning all the way asexual.

Right or wrong it’s just a thought I had. If a rapper decides to embark on this thought please drop me a line hym[at]pardonmeduke[dot]com. But if a rapper takes this concept and doesn’t give me my credit, I’m coming for 800%!
