Well it’s about damn time!!!! Finally hip-hop’s premier rap group (probably it’s greatest) gets acknowledged by the folks over at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame committee. Along with Metallica & The Stooges, Run D.M.C. is on the ballot for this year’s induction. No disrespect to the other candidates, but Run D.M.C. made hip-hop so big that it hasn’t looked back since. This was a time back when respect for the DJ actually meant something. My vote is going for them & I hope the people in charge make the same decision. R.I.P. Jam Master J.
I was waiting for Legend to release the whole show before I posted it. Here’s the show Jizzle threw in NYC before the release of The Recession. In this clip Jeezy performs “I’m So Hood (Remix), J.E.E.Z.Y., Bottom Of The Map, My Hood, Bang, Can’t Tell Me Nothing (Remix) and Hood Nigga (Remix)”. My dude Bugatti Bredrin says it a classic LP. If you got an hour in you my Dukes this is a post to enjoy. Ayyyyyyyyy!!!!
Me and my dude Romen Empire went over to Quad studios over a week ago to check out B.G. & The Chopper City Boyz new album. I really didn’t think I was going to like the album but I was sleeping, then I woke up. The group consisting of B.G., Gar (aka G.A.)and Snipe came through and performed the whole album for a room of videographers, writers and label execs.
So I refused to be a participant in the machines crown f_ckery, The VMA’s. A network that really does not know rap I have decided to stay away.. Matter of fact I stay away from them all. I haven’t touched the net in about a week. But I’m back and decided the full honest opinion is what is needed to give the people some truth. So Britney Spears wins “Video Of The Year” huh?. I guess they need to put one of em’ back on top. Neway excuse my semi racist rant. Moving right along here’s Kanyes performance of his new track “Love Lockdown”. I am a Yeezy fan of course but this autotune stuff get’s out of hand. I’m sure the studio version is fire but really if you can’t sing sometimes it just doesn’t fit. Period.
Is it just me or this pseudo deep song from Wayne get’s a little too much props. What ever happen to deeper songs like Outkasts “Babylon”. The quality and depth of our music is falling and it’s ALL of our faults. People tell me I put too much on him and I’m a hater. Look ya’ll if you decide to put this man up so high I have no choice but to challenge him. A cocaine filled person chose as numero uno better have some John Lennon lyrics coming out of his mouth. We try to make too many excuses for this mess of a performer. I won’t say MC because I don’t believe he writes anymore. What’s going to happen when people start saying this is how we all think…oh wait.
Challenge: Anyone who can tell me what the song “Don’t Get It” is about and how it relates to Nina Simone’s “Misunderstood” without my brain exploding will be granted one internet wish. The Genie has plenty my Dukes.
Here’s some footage of GZA, Killa Priest and The Roots performing at SoCo’s Music Experience in Madison WI. Gotta love a free show sponsored by a liquor company.
This guy Rosenberg is always in the mix. Here we see him & Cipha Sounds @ The Blender Theatre for the Young Jeezy show. Cipha hypes it up & Jeezy tears it down like he’s supposed to. Extra special guests include Maino & Fabolous.
One of our generation’s greatest philanthropists, Russell Simmons, is holding a Hip-Hop jewelry auction for his charity, Rush Community Affairs. He partnered with Phillips de Pury & Company to get some of your favorite rappers pieces available to the general public (or whoever can get together about $100 grand by October 1st). Of course you’ll need to get tickets but that shouldn’t be a problem.
