Tim Wise On The Creation Of Whiteness

Once in a while I post something not related to the f*ckery here. Tim Wise gives a very interesting and thought provoking analysis on Whiteness. Just watch my Dukes.

This is a clip from The Pathology of Privilege: Racism, White Denial & the Costs of Inequality, the newly released video from the Media Education Foundation. The video is of a speech given by Tim Wise at Mt. Holyoke College, October 1, 2007.

From the moment he started talking I was waiting for the sales pitch, and it came. Where was the choir? I wanted some “Lordy Jesus” talk.

With all my cynicism out of the way I couldn’t find any holes in his argument. Though I will say this; we live in a world of winners and losers…

I don’t have an answer for who the winners and losers in this world are, but a good place to start would be the mirror.

It ties into his theory that it’s not just “white” people that are in power but, a specific group of white that are in power. I say that there are winners and losers in life because race alone does not guarantee your being a winner (though it doesn’t hurt). Hard work, ambition, education and a host of other things make you a winner. By looking in the mirror and being honest with one’s self you know whether or not you are a winner or a loser. Winners make a way, losers accept things the way that they are.

All I hear is this..”complexion for protection, complexion for protection” Point blank period. White flesh will save you somehow someway even when it’s really not. And his final statement about the 9th Ward proves it. Even poor white americans blame equally poor black americans, or minorities of that matter. We all in the same boat but the people in charge have gotten to them and they don’t even realize it. At the end of the day race doesn’t matter, all that matters is where you are on the money list. The higher up you are the better your chances of survival. The people highest up know how to lower self esteem.

S.T.K1981 is an idiot. this guy is speaking a very valid and important point about race and its divisive nature. a point that if taken and ran with could ultimately unite all of us that are being trampled on by powerful elite rich bastards so we can take our lives and our world back. but then you have morons like that who want to stay stuck in their pissy views. people who want to further the idea that blacks and whites are inherently different and therefore cannot come together and fight for equal HUMANITARIAN ideals. people like you should be aborted before your ignorance can pollute the minds of others.

No time to check this out at the moment. However, those interested in a book on a similar subject may want to check out “White” by Richard Dyer.
