*Applause* I’ve been screaming this for years. I rarely ever watch BET. One year they had a series of embarrassing shows on that validated how I feel about them. Remember “Cita’s World?” They don’t represent all black people which is what people assume when you read the acronym. They took a step when they got rid of some of those shows including “Uncut”, but they have a long way to go. Black people should be proud of them, not mostly embarrassed or defensive when people mention some of its programs. Why in hell is it that “College Hill” is the only way they could represent educated black people? I’m proud of the summit they recently had concerning black men. There was real discussion, and men talking about uplifting black women instead of demeaning them, or defending their reasons for doing so. I do think they should have beat CNN to the “Black in America” series though. Things they research and discuss are eye-opening. Black people ignoring, or being blind to what’s going on is leading to our destruction at a rapid pace. We have the worst statistics in the country (most new AIDS cases, young men to die from homicide, men in jail, unmarried women, least high school graduates, children with two parents, and employed men), but are least of the population! BET needs to contribute to changing that if they want to represent black people.
