Leak Of The Week:
“Real Live Gangster” Jay-Z & K-Def

K Def

My favorite of all the mash-ups thats surfaced since Jigga released the acapellas to AG. I for prefered his rendition of the Shaft sample than Just, but that’s just me. And like Pimp C says opinions are like arseholes. More on K-Def at his own site here.

More proof that Jay needs to stop rushing his album making process. This version of Jays album is actually a lot more fitting of the original idea Jay had to make and album “inspired” by the film. I liked American Gangster musically but to most diggin/beatmakers the choice of certain tracks i. e. Hello Brooklyn for example still baffle the mind. Calm down Hov the Rainman routine is gettin tired homie!!

Right on, Korean!! I’m feeling your outspoken hatred for Little Wayne.

Also loving all these mash ups too. Just saw another one the other day by Mick Boogie called “Jay-Z and Marvin Gaye – Brooklyn Soul”

Children their is this thing called sample clearances and radio airplay to consider, which mixtape DJs need not concern themselves with. Considering that he has the best rap album out this year, in his 12th year in this game, I’d say that Jay has this album making thing down pat. The production on American Gangster is fantastic. The theme of the album is a consideration, but so is reaching the widest audience possible without ‘watering down the product’ (a theme of the movie). A balancing act which Hov has mastered.
